研究人員把鴨子的生殖細胞注射到雞胚胎的生殖器官裡。這個鴨子的生殖細胞里攜帶的DNA可以幫助成熟的雞產生鴨子的精子和卵細胞。

根據中新網報導，研究者最初期待這種轉基因雞可以繁育出更多產的母雞(全球家禽業目前大約飼養了500億隻雞)，現在他們希望通過利用這種技術讓母雞下其他鳥類的蛋，例如鴨子、鳴禽、鷹和鷹科動物。

根據MikeMcGrew最近的TEDx講座，我們得知研究者最終目標是『用這種方法來繁殖瀕危物種，或再生一種已經滅絕的物種』。

Mike McGrew是一位羅斯林研究所的科學家，並與杜拜的研究團隊有廣泛的合作。
